The last part needing shaping is the front of the seat or "pommel." This is also done by drawknife and spokeshave.
This is a very cool tool
called a pommel knife. It has a knife edge so it can be used
in either direction and one straight handle to keep it out
of the way. Very slick and effective.

After the knife I start shaping the two sides using the extra large blade first. Besides the knots there are a lot of tricky changes in grain direction. |

I move to the standard size, using the regular and radius stocks dependent on the work. |

The razor edged blades can be set for very fine cuts. |

This is my favorite spokeshave. It is made like a "cigar" shave from boxwood. I can get into some very tight radii with this. |

The compliment in a regular style shave is great at cleaning up small areas |
